I love walking along the river bed in Zion Canyon. Red rock cliffs reach high into the sky around me, and all around me is silent except for the moving sound of water and the wind rustling through the cottonwood leaves. The view from the bridge in Zion, overlooking the river and the Watchman in the distance, is one of my favorite views to paint in Zion National Park. The turquoise waters seem to capture the very light from the darkening sky. I used thick, expressive brush strokes to capture the red rocks and mountains of Zion, laying my strokes side by side without overlapping.

Arches National Park has always been one of my favorite places to paint. I love the deep, rich tones of the sandstone, the subtle lavender shadows, and the abstract shapes of the rock formations. This is a painting of Delicate Arch and the wide surrounding vista.

After watching dawn break over Bryce Canyon, I began hiking down the steep trail into the canyon’s depths. Hiking a wet and rainy trail from Angel's Landing to the Lodge at Zion National Park found these beautiful cottonwood trees growing low to the ground, their branches skirting the top of the hillside.
