The Fall Colors Show 2018

2018 was a busy year for new releases for impressionist artist Erin Hanson. The Fall Colors Show was one of three new collection releases (as well as two museum shows) for the prolific artist. This collection of autumn hues showcased paintings inspired by Hanson's recent leaf-peeping trips to the east coast and Kyoto, Japan, as well as landscapes as diverse as San Diego and Cedar Breaks National Park. Hanson searches for (and finds) beauty in any nook and cranny of our natural landscape.

I visited Kyoto, Japan, last year to explore their famous autumn colors. I woke up at 4 am and was standing on the bridge overlooking Arashiyama Park at 5 am when the sun began rising. The entire surroundings were silent and cold... around 30 degrees. The sun finally burst over the distant horizon, bathing the landscape in the richest hues of red and gold I have ever seen.

In this painting I wanted to capture the amazing range of color you see in the temple gardens, from green and yellow to purple and red. There is such a sense of grace in the branches of these ancient maples, as well as a peaceful sense of motion with the gentle winds in the leaves.

Erin Hanson moved to San Diego in 2017. She has been painting the local landscape there, and this painting of the Cove at La Jolla captures the California coastline in the vivid colors and expressive brush strokes that Hanson has become so well known for.
