Paintings of Vineyards

There is nothing like sipping wine surrounded by the very land where the grapes were grown, harvested, and processed. Often nestled among the foothills of a coastal mountain range, grape-growing territory happens to be one of the most idyllic landscapes in existence (in this artist's opinion) -- and Erin delights in painting the perfectly rounded, rolling hills contoured with rows of vineyards and dotted with ancient oak trees that stretch their wide branches out and provide perfect shady spots. Hanson long ago discovered the warmth of heart in these settings and began to paint them prolifically for her collectors to enjoy. She has painted vineyards in Paso Robles, Napa, Sonoma, Virginia, and Oregon.

As much as I travel around the world searching for inspiration to paint, I find the most beautiful landscapes in my own backyard... this painting captures the rolling hills, evergreen trees, and picturesque vineyards of the Willamette Valley and the Dundee Hills. My gallery and studio is located in McMinnville, in the heart of beautiful wine country, and October is one of the most beautiful months to enjoy Oregon wine country.

Driving the curving roads into Elk (just south of Mendocino), I came suddenly upon this vineyard in full autumn glory -- pumpkin oranges and sunflower yellows. I love it when vineyards are planted so that the rows of vines seem to overlap and form contrasting patterns in the hills. It brings me into the painting, letting my eye explore the contours of the sloping hillsides. This painting captures everything I love about painting California wine country.
