Paintings of Arches National Park

Utah's Arches National Park is a wonder of red rock splendor. This park is filled with massive rock formations, including the famous Delicate Arch and Balanced Rock monuments. Erin Hanson hiked this park during several seasons, painting the flora of Arches during the spring rains as well as the clear winter light that can only be found in the frigid months. Hanson's desert paintings use pure pigments to showcase the red rock fins, lesser-known arches, boulders, and the surrounding mountains -- along with some of the more famous sites.

When you first enter Arches National Park, one of my favorite vistas to paint is immediately to your left-hand side. You can see beautiful fins of red rock sandstone overlapping into the far distance. It is most beautiful at dawn. This painting captures the scene with luscious colors of pink and orange. This painting was exhibited at <i>Erin Hanson: Landscapes of the West </i> solo museum exhibition at the Sears Art Museum in St. George, Utah.

Arches National Park is one of my favorite national parks to paint. The clean, abstract rock formations make great painting compositions, and the buttery colors of sandstone rock allow me to use the full range of my palette from creamy yellow to butternut orange to vivid purple. This painting captures the famous double arches at Arches National Park. <b>This painting is in the Sears Museum's permanent collection in St. George, Utah. </b> This painting was exhibited at <i>Erin Hanson: Landscapes of the West </i> solo museum exhibition at the Sears Art Museum in St. George, Utah.

This painting was inspired by a hike I did to Delicate Arch (in Arches National Park) a few years ago. To catch the early morning light on Delicate Arch, I awoke at 3am to begin the hike up the sandstone slabs that culminated in the rock formations around the arch. The brilliant colors and high vantage point, surrounded by the quiet solitude of the park, have been ingrained in my mind ever since. "Delicate Arch" was created on 1-1/2" canvas, with the sides of the canvas painted as a continuation of the painting. The piece arrives framed in a 23kt gold leaf floater frame.

Arches National Park has always been one of my favorite places to paint. I love the deep, rich tones of the sandstone, the subtle lavender shadows, and the abstract shapes of the rock formations. This is a painting of Delicate Arch and the wide surrounding vista. This work was done on 1/8" canvas board, and it arrives framed and ready to hang. My favorite time to visit Arches National Park is after the spring bloom when the dark red earth becomes covered in a bright green plant life. The contrast is so striking, especially when seen in the early dawn, when the whole landscape is bathed in ethereal light. This painting was created on 1/8" canvas board, and the painting will be framed in a traditional gold frame. Following the Colorado River north of Moab and Arches National Park, early one morning in January, I discovered this beautiful vista of ragged buttes and red rock plateaus that caught the brilliant orange of a winter sunrise. The Colorado River was wide and smooth, reflecting all the ambient color. This painting captures the joyful beauty that I love to paint, that which brings me back to Utah time and time again to find a new subject to capture. About the painting: After seeing photos of Delicate Arch, Hanson made the journey to Arches to see the amazing rock formations for herself. She has since explored Arches National Park a half dozen times, each time finding something new in the changing desert. This was one of the first paintings Hanson created of Delicate Arch. This painting was created on 1-1/2" canvas, with the painting continued around the edges. It has been framed in a gold floater frame.
