Paintings of Wine Country

Inspired by wine-growing regions across the United States, Erin Hanson has painted hundreds of wine country paintings capturing rolling hills, vineyards, and shady oak trees from viticultural regions such as Paso Robles, Napa Valley, and Oregon's Willamette Valley (where she now resides.) She is drawn to the regular patterns and contrasts of vineyard rows, which accentuate the rolling hills and curves in the landscape. Erin also loves to paint the rolling foothills and coastal ranges, the winding country roads that weave through the hillsides, and the ancient oak trees that are so prevalent in wine country.

As much as I travel around the world searching for inspiration to paint, I find the most beautiful landscapes in my own backyard... this painting captures the rolling hills, evergreen trees, and picturesque vineyards of the Willamette Valley and the Dundee Hills. My gallery and studio is located in McMinnville, in the heart of beautiful wine country, and October is one of the most beautiful months to enjoy Oregon wine country.

Driving the curving roads into Elk (just south of Mendocino), I came suddenly upon this vineyard in full autumn glory -- pumpkin oranges and sunflower yellows. I love it when vineyards are planted so that the rows of vines seem to overlap and form contrasting patterns in the hills. It brings me into the painting, letting my eye explore the contours of the sloping hillsides. This painting captures everything I love about painting California wine country.
