I am always searching for new water lily ponds to paint. Two of my favorite ponds are in the middle of a big city, and both at an art museum -- the lily pond in Pasadena, California, at the Norton Simon Museum and the lily pond in Balboa Park, in front of the San Diego Museum of Art (which I have painted here.) I love how the light and reflections interact with the lily pads, and the blooming flowers add an extra dimension of color and texture. "Illumination" is an original oil painting on stretched canvas. About the painting: Erin Hanson moved to San Diego in 2017. She has been painting the local landscape there, and this painting of the Cove at La Jolla captures the California coastline in the vivid colors and expressive brush strokes that Hanson has become so well known for.
