Paintings of Nevada

Erin Hanson developed her open impressionist style of painting (and rock climbing) among the red rock cliffs of Nevada's desertscapes. The state is known for foreboding desert landscapes, red rocks, and of course, Las Vegas. Hanson not only depicts many of the state's conservation areas including Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon, but she also shares views of lesser-known buttes and rock formations found throughout the state.   

Erin Hanson developed her open impressionist style of painting (and rock climbing) among the red rock cliffs of Nevada's desertscapes. "Crack in the Rock" was one of the first paintings Erin Hanson ever painted in the style of Open Impressionism, painted while she was developing her style and rock climbing at Red Rock Canyon, Nevada. Her style of painting in distinct brushstrokes separated in mosaic-like shapes was developed in her attempt to capture the planes and dark cracks in the rock faces she loved to climb. Erin's iconic style "Open Impressionism" is now taught in art schools worldwide, and her pieces hang in the permanent collections of many museums in the United States. This rare painting was made available for us to sell on consignment. This painting was exhibited at <i>Erin Hanson: Landscapes of the West </i> solo museum exhibition at the Sears Art Museum in St. George, Utah.

Valley of Fire State Park, an hour north of Las Vegas, is a spectacular place for hiking and camping. Surrounded by fiery red sandstone at every turn, the park is steeped in color and unusual rock formations. As an interesting side note, the very first exhibition of Erin Hanson's Open Impressionism paintings took place in the Valley of Fire visitor center, in 2006. Exhibited: Desert Caballeros Western Museum, as part of the Cowgirl Up! Exhibition, 2019. This painting was done on 1-1/2" canvas, with the painting continued around the edges of the canvas, and it has been framed in a custom, gold-leaf floater frame. The painting arrives ready to hang.

Willow Springs, the "fourth pullout" in Red Rock Canyon, is a little visited rock climbing area, The views from the canyon are stunning, and nice and cool to climb in the summer. This painting captures the view looking out into the canyon, past the 13-mile loop road.

About the Painting: This was one of the first paintings Hanson created of Valley of Fire State Park, where her first landscape exhibition was held in 2007. In this early painting you can see Hanson experimenting with using brush strokes to capture the form and texture of the rocks.
